E911 address updates compliance note

Published Aug 14, 2024 • Updated May 1, 2026

Overview

E911 routes emergency calls using registered location data. Moves, remodels, and temporary sites require timely updates; liability and Kari’s Law / RAY BAUM’s Act awareness apply in US contexts—legal confirms obligations.

Triggers

Office relocation, hoteling floors changing PIDF-LO boundaries, remote worker dynamic location policy updates, SBC subnet changes.

Process

  • Ticket template: old address, new address, effective datetime, site contact, ELIN / TN association if applicable.
  • Update Teams emergency locations and carrier ALI database where separate; verify downstream PSAP ticketing.

Remote users

If using dynamic emergency calling, confirm client policy matches HR work-location records; hybrid poses edge cases for VPN and softphone-only users.

Testing

Never casual-dial 911—use coordinated test procedures with local authorities when available; document results.

Records

Annual attestation to risk committee that inventory matches floor plan; attach to compliance binder.
