Guest VM application-consistent quiescing
Overview
Application-consistent backups include in-guest VSS writers so databases commit cleanly—crash-consistent alone risks torn transactions.
Prerequisites
Current VMware Tools/Hyper-V integration services; VSS writers healthy inside guest.
Troubleshooting
Failed quiescing often from open files, low disk space on snapshot-capable volume, or stuck VCO import.
Workaround (temporary)
Crash-consistent + native DB log backups—document accepted RPO widening.
Validation
Restore test includes DB attachment and consistency check—DBCC CHECKDB for SQL when applicable.
